Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Rival Stainless Steel Electric Fondue Pot

Customer Review: Nifty
Summary: 5 Stars

This nifty gadget helps my family and I to enjoy quality time together. Although the meals can be quite long, the novelty of the pot itself keeps my children spellbound. We have enjoyed trying many different food items, including potatoes, grapes, and seaweed. Yummy! I urge everyone to try out this nifty fondue pot for simple family gatherings or a nifty party. Hurray! Hurray for fondue! Let's join together to make this America's new favorite pasttime. My cat even loves fondue. Who doesn't love fondue?

Customer Review: One major drawback
Summary: 3 Stars

It's a Fondue pot, and it's very good at being a fondue pot. The only issue I have with it is the cord. The "breakaway" portion of the cord is not held particularly well by the magnet, and it disconnected twice through normal use. The other cord issue is length. If the cord on this is 36 inches long, I would be very surprised. Unless you have an outlet right at your table, this will be a very frustrating thing to use, and all the warnings say not to use any kind of extension cord with it.

But as far as it heating oil for fondue.. it works great in that arena.

Customer Review: Quick temperature control and cleans easily

Purchased as a gift, this item came quickly. It is a very good quality for the brand. Fondue doesn't stick, quick temperature control and cleans easily. Thanks Amazon

Customer Review: Reliable and easy to use
Summary: 4 Stars

I attended a 'girls night out' event where we were invited to bring our fondue pots to help the hostess accomodate 5 different types of chocolate fondues. Every single fondue, save the one in my Rival Electric were dried out lumpy, clumpy and inedible (unless you were looking to chisel off a peice). What better way to rank it against the competiton? I can't honestly say which models the others were but there were assorted fuel types and another one or two electric models in the mix. (I also have a friend with a couple of candle, and liquid fuel based models that heat very unevenly with really hot spots-- and really cool spots, the Rival if nothing else heats quite consistently).

I will say, that the warm setting on the Rival Electric Fondue pot is a little higher than I'd like. There are many settings available but none cooler than 'warm' and periodically during an event i'll have to shut it off to avoid overheating/drying out. (This is once the product is already well melted, after the solution begins to cool again I turn it back on and may periodically add a Splash more wine or beer for cheese fondues, or more milk for chocolate)

Still, I've had my Rival Electric Fondue pot for 8 years and I've used it for chocolate (I always dump a bag of semisweet ghiradelli chocolate chips, with a can of sweetened condensed milk, and extra milk to taste-- plus sometimes a splash of Orange liquer or a dash of cayenne pepper to mix things up). Beer and cheddar fondue, and traditional 'swiss' (greyere and emmenthalier) cheese fondues as well all with fabulous results. (It is supposed to work well, also with oil/broth based fondues but I'm always nervous i'll splash myself not for any lack of features in the pot but for my own clumsy nature).

By design, the electric cord 'breaks off' near the 'pot' so the bowl can be cleaned without worry of damaging the electric parts. Also, for safety the break away feature reduces the likeliness of accidents and the cord, also is short for similar safety reasons.

We always wash our Rival Electric Fondue pot by hand immediately after use as leaving it in sitting water might damage it, and cleanup has always been fairly simple and I've never had an issue with fondues sticking (nothing hot water won't fix).

I love this fondue pot, it's great for cheese and chocolate but also oil. It's easy to clean and the magnetic cord is a great safety feature.
